pasuneaventure replied to your post: any tips for high school students wanting to study…
those two books are pretty dry and scary . i suggest experiencing architecture by rasmussen. we had to read it the summer before our freshman year and it was a huge help and very interesting.
i was trying to remember the name of that book so thank you for your reply!
that’s an awesome book! i have two copies for some reason.. ?
Anonymous asked: Hi I was just thinking, what should I expect in architecture school? I'm gonna start on June and I honestly don't know what I'm up against. (O_o)
obviously expect a lot of work given to you. for studio you can be given 4 study models, some diagrams, and sketches due at once. other times you will be given elevations, plans, and more diagrams. then you’ll have 1/4” scale models, etc. it’s seems like a lot of work and trust me it is, but it’s all worth it at the end. it’s exciting to see your project develop and become something much greater.
tip: write down everything your professor says in a notebook or something. they say really great things at times and you can learn a lot from their advice.

take ap course such as math, science, and english to get them out of the way in college. also take some art classes and open your mind to design. read some architecture books such as Architecture: Form, Space, & Order, Building Construction Illustrated, etc. to get you familiar with what architecture is and means.
ictebres asked: thanks a lot for the reply! But can you be more specific? Are professors and teaching are good? And what do you think is the most important thing in a university while choosing one for studying for a 3-4 years.
for school in germany right? well i can’t really tell you if the professors are any good or not since i don’t go to school there. what i would tell you or anyone is to go to school that speaks english of course or you’ll have a hard time. also living in the city would be great in germany. you could go travel and see all the amazing architecture in germany and visit many art museums and shows! chose a school that speaks english, well known, great program, and great location. you’ll have to do a bit a research but here’s a list of school in germany to get you started
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_architecture_schools_in_Germany
here’s a list:
Maryland Institute College of Art
University of Maryland - College Park
the bolded ones seem to be the best known, there’s probably more.
if you go to school in maryland please comment and tell us about your school!
